How this piece was made.

STAGE 01

Establishing the fabric and graphic direction

We begin with the relaxed white sample and its compact three-line chest graphic, then examine the cotton-linen blend at close range. The visible slubbed texture and irregular printed surface establish the worn character that the later pattern, print and finishing work must preserve.

STAGE 02

Developing the body pattern and broken lettering

We develop the body pattern with the reference garment beside the digital layout, keeping the broad torso and sleeve shapes in view. The three-line graphic is then screen-printed onto separate front panels, with its compact placement aligned below the neck opening. Small gaps within the pale lettering carry the worn effect into the print itself.

STAGE 03

Connecting print ageing with garment finishing

We compare the printed film with the pale lettering on the reference before carrying the mottled graphic onto blue front panels. Spray-gun work on a garment form and localised wheel abrasion address the body surface and collar edge as separate finishing operations. The final balance brings subdued fabric colour, broken lettering and small worn edges into the same garment.

The original and RE:DEFINE both place a compact three-line pale graphic high on a broad dark body, leaving the lower front and back plain. In the numeral close-up, the original retains larger uninterrupted pale areas, while RE:DEFINE breaks more of the fill into fine speckling. Both treatments allow the dark knit to interrupt the lettering, connecting the chest graphic with the surrounding washed surface.

The dark original and RE:DEFINE both carry small irregular breaks along the ribbed neck edge, with similarly understated wear at the sleeve hems. In the three-way comparison, the market sample uses larger, more concentrated neck openings than the smaller separated breaks on the retail reference and RE:DEFINE. Across the full-garment views, the broad plain body keeps these edge details secondary to the centred chest graphic.
