DEVELOPMENT

How this piece was made.

STAGE 01

Setting the cloth and pocket construction

Fabric referencePRIVATE ARCHIVE
Swatch against the garmentPRIVATE ARCHIVE
Zipper openingPRIVATE ARCHIVE
Pocket-flap undersidePRIVATE ARCHIVE

Fabric swatches are checked against the garment before the pocket construction is developed. At the pocket opening and fly, the useful controls are the fold, the line of stitching and the way the layers meet, rather than the black colour alone.

STAGE 02

Building the pockets around their fastenings

The pattern work sets the cargo-pocket and fly layout, then each opening is developed with its own zip, snap or button. The loose components and fitted details link hardware selection to the panel it actually has to close, including the zip tape and the buttoned badge attachment.

STAGE 03

Finishing the badge and gathered waistband

The removable embroidered badge is fixed through its stitched buttonholes, so the button positions and the embroidery border need to work together. At the waist, the elastic, drawcord openings and sewing sequence establish the gathered finish and the points where the inner components meet the shell.

RE:DEFINE carries over the original's cargo-pocket layout and curved fly stitching in the source-specified 40-count, high-density cotton plain weave, listed at 130 g and 100% cotton. The two marked reinforcement points at the fly, pocket flaps, ring-shaped zip pulls and buttoned badge are compared as working assemblies, with the opening and attachment positions considered alongside the outline of each component.

The original and RE:DEFINE both use stitched drawcord exits within the gathered waistband, with the short reinforcing stitches kept visible in the comparison. The same construction review continues at the rear pocket and gathered leg opening, where the flap edge, fastening and elastic casing must be read together.
